Just a few good news things to share this week. If anyone would like to contribute a Good News Friday post, feel free to email me. I’ll gift you a free full subscription, which you can share with someone else if you already have one!
Mild cases of Covid have surged around Djibouti in the past few weeks, but we know of no one who is seriously ill and there haven’t been any deaths in quite a while. So that is great news. The other excellent Covid news is that in Djibouti tests have been widely available since…I can’t even remember when, and they are always free. FREE. Unless you need a travel document, that will cost about $30.00 USD. But otherwise tests are free. It can take between five minutes and two hours to get the test and the results, available within 24-hours guarantee. I’m actually pretty impressed with Djibouti for the handling of the pandemic.
Pillars won the OWL Book Pal Award for the Religion category! This put me in a list on Twitter that included Oprah. When I told my daughter she said, “Who is Oprah?” It was all awesome.
Wintering: the power of rest and retreat in difficult times by Katherine May . This is a lovely book of slowing down, thoughtfulness, noticing beauty, hibernation. I feel like I’m even reading it a bit more slowly, but that’s okay because her writing is gorgeous.
Divers find a thriving rose petal-like coral reef near Tahiti. Stunning.
Wordle. Yup, I have joined the hordes and I LOVE it. A word game! Oh.my.word(le). (heehee) It is great! It is fun and challenging and I’m good at (okay I’m good at a lot of word games, I’m a writer, what do you expect?)! And you can only play one time per day so you can’t waste too much time on it. I’ve gotten several in three tries, just to brag a little bit. Seriously. Play it. You’ll be a fan in no time.
Bacon Bread French Toast. There’s no recipe for this (yet), my husband created it. He makes bread and rolls it up with lardons inside. Lardons are these fabulous French pieces of pork fat, kinda like bacon. We can’t get American style bacon here. We could get the French version but it is no good. So we go for the lardons. Anyway, he makes the fresh loaf (because my husband bakes his own bread, yay!) with the lardons packed into it, then made that fresh bread into slices of French Toast.
You like bacon and French Toast for breakfast, right? Why not eat the bacon inside the bread?! It was delicious. If another professional baker has already made this up, I don’t want to know about it. We would like to live in the ignorant bliss of having a great idea and being the only ones to have had it.
What are you good things this week?

Congratulations on winning the OWL Book Pal award. It deserved it.
Congratulations on winning the OWL Book Pal award, I am thrilled for and very proud of you! I hope that this will help bring all the goodness contained in Pillars to even more readers. Also, I love that your daughter did not know who Oprah is (and that is making me feel my age!) ;).
