Sharing our good things.
Tell us something about your life in international development, faith, missions, cross-culturally…anything. Tell us something you have seen, heard about, done that is:
Good
Kind
Beautiful
Generous
Lovely
Praise-worthy
Honorable
You get the idea. Tell us something good.
Here’s mine:
Swedish Fish. It is the little things in life, right? I’m a sucker for small candy, you know the kind you can scoop you out and sort of nibble on while you write? Its a problem. I brought a big big bag back with me and hid it from myself (and my husband and daughter). We all know they are so GROSS, the way they stick in your teeth and are sickly sweet. And yet…also so good.

Good article considering publishing with a small press
From Jane Friedman’s website. Go with the small press or no?
Good small press
Plough. Hands down. Okay, also my only publishing experience other than self-publishing. But Plough is fabulous. If you get their quarterly or their (oh-so-excellent) books, you know this already. If you are in Minneapolis, Portland, or Los Angeles, check out the book launch events they have coming up.
Good new-to-me song
I was roundly rebuked by several of my nieces this summer for now knowing George Ezra’s song Shotgun. These cuties putting me to shame range in age from 5-9 and I took the rebuke in stride as they promptly taught me all the words and told me to get with it, Auntie Rachel. Now when I hear it, I think of my nieces and so voila, a new song for me. We don’t get “radio” here and I don’t know how to find good music, so am always open to suggestions. Send ‘em along!
Good development-coaching org
Have you found Kindred Exchange yet? I spoke at their online conference this summer and they are running a giveaway including Pillars.
Good Covid new in Africa
I’ve been so curious about why Covid has not ravaged Africa like people thought it would. This article in Quartz provides some interesting insights.
What’s your good stuff this week?

I love Swedish Fish too! I'm not so much into other candies in the category you described - really dark chocolate is my go-to - but there is just something about Swedish Fish ;) Hope you still have a few left or that if not, you can get someone to bring you some soon :) Craig Greenfield brings up so many challenging, thought-provoking, insightful points in his article you linked. His closing sentences about how Christians often miss what the Spirit is doing, but to not miss it this time but rather take this amazing opportunity to love our neighbors is a great call to action. Also the Quartz article offered some great insights about the big and important question of why COVID-19 hasn't had more devastating effects here in Africa, at least thus far. The recommendations offered by the authors seem really solid, and I hope that these will be followed to help prevent some of the more contagious variants from wreaking havoc on this continent.
